HI. Did anyone else pick up one of these bargains? Did it come with the complementary diagonal banded lines (full screen), annoying flashing artefact (right hand corner) and a very hit and miss approach to whether it would play divx files or not?
Now don't get me wrong I love SVP - the order we placed at 3pm one day that arrived 8.30 the next morning on economy delivery was gobsmackingly impressive.
But I'm about to take a hammer to this particular box of horrors and send it back in a thousand pieces.
Please tell me its just me that got a piece of junk and not that everyone else is suffering the same problems
Not bought one myself but it could be that the diagonal lines are caused by interference from other electrical equipment.
As for the DivX files...sounds like a firmware upgrade is needed.

Hi tcs
I've tried 3 scart leads and nothing else is plugged in at all (there's no tivos or sky+ or even vcr to get in the way). Firmware is not an option apparently. I did ask but no response except to download a divx test disk. Not very helpful as I already know what it can't play.
Anyway, in the meantime I've binned it. Waste of money.
I'll stick to buying disks in future.

If its the Sumvision 1000 .. well I'm not experiencing any of the problems you have. Seems to play everything I tried so far.
Mine works really well as a recorder and DivX player, utter gash as a DVD player but that's not a problem.

I think I just got the one built on a Friday afternoon :)
I'm about to buy a DVD recorder and DV in (firewire) is important to me. I've been getting confused as to whether Sumvision has this feature so rang up SVP.
The 1001 is the older model (even though the numbering would make you think it was newer). It has a firewire input and a USB socket which can apparently be used for playing jpegs and mp3s from memory sticks.
The 1000 has, according to another post I read, updated DviX firmware which is presumably an improvement, but does not have the firewire or USB ports. Bit of a mystery to me why a feature which, once designed, cannot cost more than a couple of pounds, should be removed.
Oh well, going to research a Cilo C-105 and see whether it meets my requriements. Anybody know anything about it?
Nick
Is it possible to download any updated firmware anywhere?

I have had news from Sumvision that they have a firmware update for this model SV-1000 and it will be up for grabs within the next week or two. Check our download area out for this update next week.

There is no firmware update for the SV-1001 in the pipe line as yet.

Tried the update, although it didn't do the tray opening closing stuff, it did seem to be doing something and the remote control now seems more responsive which was one of it's main flaws. Cheers.
Can anyone confirm whether the SV-1000 outputs an RGB signal via scart?
Also can you loop it through a freeviewdigibox? i.e. to enable you to toggle between the 2 via one scart

Hi,
Tha SV-1000 has RGB out and I recommend you link the freeview to the SV-1000 via the scart input.

Hi All
I’ve had nothing but problems with mine.
I’ve tried playing div x movies on it etc and once in a while they work and then stop, I have to fwd it on and play it again to get past it.
Tried using different clips/ films etc and different encodings of them still very temperamental.
The biggest problem I have with it is I record something to an RW disc and it doesn't record
Basically when I have recorded something on my player I take the disc out of
the machine and it will not play in any other machine or be recognised
anywhere using any software.
I have tried using forensic recovery tools to get the data off of the disk
and that still doesn't work, you can physically see the tracks burnt into
the DVD so there is defiantly data on the disk and the recording process
completed fine.
If I put that disc back in the machine again it tells me that it is a new
blank disc, therefore, loosing what I have just recorded.
One example was I recorded the news, after recording I played it back once
and it was fine. I then took the disc out and put it back in the machine and
it said it was blank !!
I have tried it with different discs and getting the same result. Its
happened quite a lot but nothings happened to the machine to make it do this
???
Its very annoying as I record something and when I want to play it back it
says its not there.
I can't finalise the disc after this has happened I cant do anything other
than use the remainder of the space on the disc as if it was a new disc.
I sent it back to SVP they said it was fine, I then used the same DVD that they use to test it and It worked once.
Deleted all that was on the disc then recorded something else the machine says “Failed to stop current recording”!!! Yet the disc still has space on it and still has the original data on it also !!!!!!!
(Apologies for the long post )

Hi Smooth CRM,
There are a few thing I recommend you try before contacting us again.
Check the media is recommended. I recommend the below DVD+RW media :- http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=821
Finalise the media before you remove or turn off the recorder and install the firmware update.
If you still have problems with the recorder, Please Email support@svp.co.uk

Thanks for the reply Danny
I was under the impression that the Sumvision 101 (dvd recorder and divx player) doesn't have a firmware upgrade ? (Sorry I don't think I specified which one I had).
The DVD RW I was referring to in the above post was the Ricoh one that I received back from SVP after the tests, which is the one you also is referring to.
However the symptoms are still the same with the Ricoh DVD???
Thanks

Hi Ben
Try it with a few different DVDS to make sure the problem is with the Sumvision and not the disc.
If it was bought from SVP, please email sales@svp.co.uk
If you bought from somewhere else, then you need to email or speak to whoever it was bought from.

Sorry to drag up this old thread, but I've had a brand new Sumvision SV1000 in the cupboard for some considerable time and now I need to use it.
Does anyone have a link for the firmware update for it or does anyone have a copy of the file they can let me have?
Cheers

One more question about this dvd recorder.
When I start a recording I get the red box in the top left corner saying recording and the recording time underneath it.
How do I get rid of it? I've tried the OSD button and checked various menu items to no avail.
Probably something really simple and me being thick.
