View Full Version : Lightscribe/labelflash
Is the NEC ND-4551 compatible with the HP lightscribe discs or do i have to wait for media to be available?
If not which lightscribe writer do you sell the more of without any problems?

I'm told that Lightscribe discs work on Label Flash drives, but I've yet to test it.
Any feedback from anyone else would be appreciated.

I think you'll find that's incorrect.
You can of course Label the data side of any DVD.

The NEC ND-4551 is not compatible with the HP lightscribe discs and you will need LightFlash discs to burn to the top surface. You can burn images to the underside of any DVD-R or +R.
I recommend you look at the {HA 4173** **Black** Philips Lightscribe PBDV16LSB 16x Double Layer DVD+/-R/RW Writer.

Yep, I've been misinformed about being able to use a Lightscribe disc on a Label Flash drive. When Danny tried it the Label Flash drive disn't recognise the Lightscribe disc as a disc it could use Label Flash on.
All in all, not a clever situation for NEC to get themselves into. They have lauched a drive who's biggest feature is their new Label Flash technology, but they have launched it with no software or media support available at the time of the launch....not helpful at all.
Probably a good time to remind you that anyone who has bought one of these drives from us has a 30 day no quibble warranty in addition for the normal 12 months warranty in case of the drive failing. It may be a good drive in months to come when the media is available but NEC have not lauched the drive in a consumer friendly way at all. The people marketing the drive at NEC and their distributors don't appear to know what it can and can't do!

I heard whispers it is possible through (possibly hacked) firmware flashing you can make your 4550 Label Flash compatible :|
Whats the point in labelflash etc? Buy printable discs and print on them using an Epson or alike printer.
It's Faster, Cheaper and looks better!
Whether it looks better or not is a matter of opinion is it not?
Thanks for the replies folks, ill go for a Phillips i think :)
