What are the differences between the Criterion R1 and the R2 versions?

Are they both the directors cut, OAR etc? Is it just a commentary that is missing from R2?

Thanks for any help.

I haven't seen the R2, but I can confirm that the commentary is well worth it - so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Criterion (which is actually R0, not R1).

Cheers for that.

I actually have the criterion release and was just wondering if the Region 2 was any good so I could get that and sell the crit as the R2 is (obviously) a bit cheaper (£8.99 at play). Am v short of money and looking for ways to make a bit back (christmas  ) and this was one of the film I could trade down on, and as I'm not usually bothered with comms.

Probably just stick with the crit though and just have to find other discs to get rid of!

Isn't R2 4:3 ??? Could be wrong, please don't quote me on that.

I have just quoted you! :p (bad joke I know!)

I think they are both 1.78:1 or there abouts.

This disc has just been released in R4 with a commentary track (I assume it's the same as Criterion) and can be had for $A30-ish.

I wouldn't assume that at any price! It's been released by the same cheapskate swine who just gave us a near-full-frame non-anamorphic "Night On Earth" and half a SE of AKIRA. Beware. Be very careful.

Check here (http://www.michaeldvd.com.au) very carefully for information before grabbing this as an imagined saving.

Resurrected this thread for DVD Beaver's comparison of the Criterion, the R4 Madman and the new R2 German release from MC One Classic; Walkabout with an anamorphic transfer, at last, here (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare/walkabout.htm).

BTW, I accept that it may not be as nice as the Criterion, but unless you have a humoungous screen, or are prone to stepping through your films in slow-mo, the R4 is nowhere near as bad as those screen caps make out IMHO...

There seems to be a new edition coming in a couple of days from MC One (http://www.mc-one.de/movies/index.php?sel=preview&movie_id=252&art=dvd). Just a different cover?
