View Full Version : XDA vs Blackberry
Hi all,
Anyone any experience of both? I've used an XDA (1 and 2 variants) and many PocketPCs enough to review an XDA, but never touched a Blackberry.
For a mobile connected office, and phone what's best? I can't think how a Blackberry could ever beat a PocketPC, especially now this update to Windows Mobile gives push email etc (dunno if that's available on the XDA2 though?)
Cheers,
Steve
Push e-mail has always been the best thing about Blackberry. I have had one for years and like it, but if the company upgrades Exchange to include push mail directly then I'll look at migrating. At the moment I'm looking at getting the Nokia E61 for BB Connect use or the new BB but only because I am forced to BB by the company.
Isn't there some kind of lawsuit going on at the moment with BlackBerry? I heard that they'd infringed a patent and had been told to cease production and stop transmitting in America, or something along those lines, and that it was likely to affect worldwide usage soon.

I'd wait for the 8700 Blackberry, I have one and they are fantastic. Don't know when they are going to be released in the UK though.

They are released next month, I am seriously considering one

That was the "new" BB I was talking about in that post

They say they have a backup plan anyway, but want to win the law suit as it will be easier (I guess backup will involve patching every device and server out there?)
whats push email and BB
arent these things to small to be useful?

Blackberry is a VERY expensive solution, especially if you set foot in a foreign country with it. You've generally got to pay for the device, the regular air time contract often plus a data element, plus the blackberry tax. And that's before the cost of installing and supporting BES if you have that.
I'd very strongly recommend waiting for Microsoft's Exchange Push or other vendors solutions to get established which will happen as soon as some more PDAs with Windows Mobile appear on the market.

I knew you were all close!
I have an XDA (Orange SPV M1000 - HTC Himalaya) reflashed to Windows Mobile 2005 and I also have a Blackberry 7290 running on BES (both company supplied :D) They're both great for different things. I've tried to use the push type stuff and the remote exchange sync with the XDA and I've never managed to get it to work properly (and I've made some freaky tech stuff work before!) however the Blackberry just does it's thing.
I use the XDA as my main phone, use it for satnav with TomTom 5 and use it for playing games etc and I use the Blackberry for all my away from desk email related functions and most of my calendaring.
