This is the list of possibilities...
V500
Nokia 6230 or 6630 or 6021 or 6030
Sony Ericsson K750
Samsung E530 or Z500 or E350e

I know the 750 is prob the best but I already have the 700 and hate it. (buttons too small, joystick a pain)
I only use this for phoning and very occasional texts. No real need for gadgets. I'm just looking for a good OS, reliable hardy phone. Tending towards the Samsung e350. Any thoughts?
I pay nothing for the phones or calls it's all for work.

I loved my K750i .... have only got rid of it to get a W810i.

The K750 is nothing like the K700, so I would play around with one in a shop first before deciding its not the one for you. I love my K750 and its upgrade time for me too now but the W810 is basically the same phone with a different keyboard so personally Im going to stick with the K750 as the camera is brilliant.

Out of the others I would recommend the 6230 - very easy to use, though the camera is 'only' 1.3 Mp i think.

How it is 'better' all depends on what you want in a phone (apart from making calls of course).

I personally like it because:

- it has a 2Mp camera
- expandable memory
- can add Java games if thats your 'thing' (though its not mine :) )
- Very good RDS stereo radio. Better IMHO than the radio on the Nokia 6230.
- Practical earphones. Easy to carry around and plug in to the phone. IIRC the earphones on the 6230 are crap and very impractical to carry around as they always get tangled so easily. If you go for the W800 i or W810 I believe the earphones are even better. I think the W800/810 come with a proper earphone jack adaptor so you can even play songs etc through your car stereo via one of them cassette adaptors if you want :)
- can play and store MP3s.
- very easy integration with the PC with supplied software and cable. The Memory stick duo gets recognised as a hard disk on the PC :)
- Fast transfer of files to and from the Memory Stick - much faster than from/to phone and PC.

What I DON'T like about the K750:

- the joystick can be a bit fiddly.
- the screen can be a bit difficult to see in daylight. I think they made the screen better on the new W810.
