View Full Version : Oh dear
I guess this is kinda old news (to people in the know)
But by now this should all be sorted.
Jebus, when you consider how long this format has been coming, it makes you wonder just what they have been doing over the past few years to get ready for it?

From the article it only sounds like it can't play movies because the graphics cards with HDCP and software aren't ready yet. Unless I'm missing something

Those things won't matter for the first batch of discs as the flag to limit the output resolution will not be set on the first discs released. However, since AACS is done for the Toshiba drive in their laptop, I suspect it has to do with the additional BD+ encryption layer for Blu-Ray.

This is a major blow for BR seeing as it looks unlikely you'll be able to play Bluray movies without making further upgrades to your PC.

Is everything a major blow for BD regardless of whether it's a postive or neutral thing?

This is something that anyone with common sense and basic computer knowledge knows. It's not a blow for BD. Where you expecting to put a BD drive in a Pentium II and then play films?
Both the new formats will need high end PC's and a HDCP card. If they let them play over an analogue connection it'd render the whole HDCP pointless.
