Have noticed that there are an increasing number of these titles, and was wondering how exactly they work?

Do you get one side of the disc DVD format and the other HD-DVD or are they on the same layer?

Does it result in a compromise of either format?

I only ask, as they only seem to be a few quid more than the regular DVD's, and it surely makes sense to buy new releases in this way, if like me, you are upgrading in the future, just not yet.

Any info appreciated ;)

I think Warner are starting to do this with some of their titles; basically the HD DVD version of the old style 'flipper' disks with HD-DVD on one side and regular DVD on the other. I imagine they must be more expensive to master, but it certainly makes distribution a lot easier.

Your might find this link (http://hometheater.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.avrev.com/news/0406/26.warner.shtml) of interest.

Tosh have just released info on multiformat/layer disks.

Either single layer dvd with 2 layer HD_DVD (4.7gb/30gm) or dual DVD single HD (9gn/15gb).

Produced on the current production lines, no exta expense, BR killa.

And no problems working out which side is which. Ironic since Sony adopted this technique for SACDs whilst the DVD-forum-approved Dual-disc went double sided.
