View Full Version : Toshiba HD DVD Europe Interview

I interviewed Toshiba recently regarding their euro player launches and it turned out to be a really interesting conversation.
To cut to the chase, the prices will be HDE1 £449 and HDXE1 £599, each will be capable of playing SD DVD NTSC and Pal 50hz, so multi region for standard Def after a hack. And don't forget upscaling as well! Far better than the HD1 etc in this regard.
HD DVD will remain region free and will never be changed on these models...plus far more details. I am doing my best not to look like I am spamming this forum, that is not my intention, I just want to pass the information on and hopefully I have given you enough above to justify this post, if not mods please feel free to remove.
You can listen to the full interview here: http://www.avpodcast.co.uk/podcast.mp3?p=17
Interview is the last feature and is 30mins long.

Not yet, only went live today. The link is a direct mp3 so should open up in your player on your pc, it doesn't go to any website. The interview begins at
40min 16sec.

You should have asked them why their current players basically equate to hitting buttons at random and hoping the action you intended works :D

My HD-A1 arrived today, and the hardware is, to put it mildly, absolutely shockingly erratic even with 2.0 firmware

I'm sorry, I know you're the Podcaster General and it's a "big thing" at the moment, but I'm fairly sure that most of us aren't into audio downloads for simple nuggets of information that could easily be read online.

I'd rather read an interview, which can be done quickly than have to listen to a 'podcast'.

Cheers, I actually like the podcast rather than reading page after page of technical info.

Usual price ripoff I see. US prices are $499 and $999. Why is the UK base model so bloody expensive? Would've been a good question to ask.

Sorry Colin, I haven't linked directly to my site, it's an audio file. I am not promoting anything here, other than the fact we had an exclusive interview and the content would be off interest to members here. For some reason I cannot send you a PM to discuss the software won't let me, but I again apologise if you think I am doing something I shouldn't, BTW we allow backwards linking to this forum and 'Times' so I thought we could co-populate for the good of both sites members, but by your tone I obviously got that wrong. Sorry.

HiFiBitZ has the Toshiba HD-E1 for £399.99 here (http://www.hifibitz.co.uk/product.asp?id=5607). R2 only for the DVD side of things, so it says.

And there's rumours that a hack for DVD multiregion will be available soon after launch.

how do you figure? it may well be able to play ntsc and pal dvds but where did you get the multi-region hack info from?
