What's your favourite single episode of a comedy series?

I'd have to say that the Bottom episode 'Gas' was fantastic. I've seen it a thousand times but still find it funny. I watched it the other week and was in tears. The scenes with the gas man in particular are superb. Trying to stall him, telling him stories, making him drink cold tea and then trying to kill him because he found out they were nicking next door neighbour's (Mr Rottweiler played by Brian Glover) gas supply.

Richie: Eddie! You've killed him!
Eddie: I never touched him.
Richie: Yeah, but the frying pan did, didn't it, and you were touching that at the time!
Eddie: ********, you killed him. He was dead before he hit the ground.
Richie: Well then why did you keep hitting him with the frying pan?
Eddie: For fun.

So what's yours?

One that I always enjoy watching is another Bottom ep called 'S Out. It's the one where they go camping in the local park and hunt fish with a vest and hedgehogs with chocolate Hobnobs :D

Interesting trivia on it from imdb:

The original transmission date for this episode was delayed for two and a half years due to a real life murder on Wimbledon Common. Despite being the last episode of series two, it was shown after all of series three for the first time.

If we exclude pretty much everything from Whose Line... then the one I've watched most recently that springs to mind is "Ham Radio" from Frasier (Series 4?). Some fantastic laugh out loud moments.

Frasier: Mel, your German accent sounds a tad Austrian.

Mel: I've performed that accent on Broadway and the London stage.

Frasier: Yes, but perhaps they have different standards than I do.

Probably:

Father Ted - 'Flight into Terror'
It just seems to work so well, especially concidering most of the episode is set away from the normal surroundings of Craggy Island.

Special mentions:
- All Police Squad! episodes, especially the one with the bank hold-up.
- Spaced episode 'Gone' (the one with the 'Raptor Boys' in it...)
- All episodes of 'How do you want me?' due to it being brilliant.
- Black Books - 'Elephants & Hens' (it is just brilliant.)

Seinfeld - The Contest is certainly worthy of a mention.

Only Fools and Horses; where Del Boy falls through the bar and the episod where the blow up dolls start inflating in the back of his three wheeler van.

Fawlty Towers-The Builders, Gourmet Night("Ducks Off, Sorry"), Basil The Rat("Is Sibrian Hampster") and of course The Germans.

Morcambe and Wise, where they are making breakfast to the tune of the stripper.

Frasier - The Matchmaker

I think that's the title - the episode with Frasier's ghey station boss, who thinks Frasier is trying to lure him into bed, where he is really trying to set him up with Daphne - classic

Every episode of Fawlty Towers

South Park - Scott Tennerman Must Die - Cartman trying to get in for a movie using pubes instead of money cracks me up every single time  Evil and hilarious in equal measures

'Ned stop Jackin it!'
'I can't!'

Blackadder II - the executioner episode - might be called 'Head'

Filthy, Rich and Catflap - The one where he kills the milkmen. Filthy "One milkman you can get away with, misunderstanding, faults on both sides..."

Only Fools and Horses - Got to be the one with Tony the singing Dustman. Has me in stitches each time when I see him and Racquel singing.

Comic Strip - Bad News always gets me laughing.

Dear John - The one where Ralph is DJ'ing and only has 1 record (Shakin Stevens - Green Door). Wheres the damn DVD release BBC?!

I'll second that, along with Ski Lodge and The Inn Keepers

Friends, the one where no one's ready and the one with 2 birthday parties.

Blackadder Goes Fourth (all of them) but particularly Private Plane

Can't remember the episode of Friends, but I love the one where Ross is trying to chat up the pizza girl - 'I happen to like 8 year old boys'.

And Father Ted - Tentacles Of Doom - too many bits to mention, but 'Aliens is on after the news tonight' still cracks me up just thinking about it.

Not my fave ever, but my favourite Father Ted episode has to be "A Christmassey Ted" - Dougal's "Scary Film" bit gets me EVERY time :)

So many good ones, can't pick a top choice, but some contenders would be (most already mentioned):

Father Ted - Speed 2000
Friends - The one where they swap apartments (the quiz is so funny)
Bottom - Gas
Police Squad - All of them!
Blackadder - Last episode and the one where Blackadder goes on the ship in S2 (He's got a womans ...)

Blackadder Goes Fourth - last episode for obvious reasons.

"Goodbyeee" is one of my favourite TV episodes of all time and the finale is certainly the best of all.. But because of it, there is that element of poignancy added in the end to indicate the futility of war. This makes it difficult to classify "Goodbyeee" as an out & out comedy episode.

Classic  Why isn't this out on dvd...

Black Adder - Series 2 with Sir Walter "what a big ship I've got" Raleigh.
Fawlty Towers - Not a particular episode (all were good) but always quote the "Manwell, there's too much butter on those trays!" "No, no Mr Fawlty, uno, dos , tres" When ever i carry trays in.
Father Ted - Hard to pick one but probably where there on holiday in the caravan "These are small cows and they are far away cows"

I like the episode of Friends when Joey is trying to keep the secret about Monica & Chandler from the rest of the gang and Rachel & Phoebe find out and poor Joey is cought in the middle as both sides try and out wit each other. Then Pheobe comes out with the line: "They don't know we know they know we know!" and Joey's face is just a priceless look of bewilderment and confusion. lol

If we can have comedy/action/drama/space-pirate shows too, one that sticks out in my mind would have to be the 'Our Mrs Reynolds' episode of Firefly.

Elaine: You mean..?!
George: Uh-huh.

Confronting some camp hoodlums:
Kramer: Excuse me...
Camp "street tough" 1: Are you talking to me? I said are you talking to me?

My favourite episode of Red Dwarf is Marooned from series 3 I think. Some of the dialogue between Lister and Rimmer is priceless. When Rimmer is talking about losing his virginity...

RIMMER: The truth? Not much to tell, really. I've always been a bit of
a fish out of water when it comes to women. Never know what to say. I
wasn't very highly sexed, to be honest with you. I think it was all
that school cabbage I was forced to eat as a boy. Still, the first
time ... the first time was this girl I met at Cadet College. Sandra,
she was called. We did it in the back of my brother's car.
LISTER: What was it like?
RIMMER: Oh, brilliant. Incredible. (Goes glassy-eyed.) Bentley
convertible. V8 turbo. Walnut veneer panelling. Marvellous machine.

Bang on. I'm just watching it for the first time (through a S1 DVD bargain purchase), so I was waiting to get a few episodes in before I picked out a really good one for this thread. Wonderful show though, fantasticly smart at times too.

For now, I'm gonna suggest Curb Your Enthusiasm: 'Shaq' from the 2nd season (2x08 if I remember correctly). I loved the turnaround when things start going right for Larry.

Angel - First Episode with Spike, the bit when Spike is doing all the dialogue between Angel and the girl who he rescued.

Same episode as Oz I believe - the ring of something that lets a vamp out in the sun:

Watching from on top of a building as Angel talks to a woman he just saved, Spike guesses what is being said.]

Spike: [as Rachel] How can I thank you, you mysterious black-clad hunk of a night thing?

[as Angel] No need, little lady, your tears of gratitude are enough for me. You see, I was once a badass vampire, but love and a pesky curse defanged me. Now I'm just a big, fluffy puppy with bad teeth. [Rachel reaches for Angel's head] No, not the hair. Never the hair.

[as Rachel] But there must be some way I can show my appreciation?

[as Angel] No, helping those in need's my job, and working up a load of sexual tension and prancing away like a magnificent poof is truly thanks enough.

[as Rachel] I understand. I have a nephew who is gay, so...

[as Angel] Say no more. Evil's still afoot. And I'm almost out of that nancy-boy hair-gel I like so much. Quickly, to the Angel-mobile, away.

Arrested Development - 'Afternoon Delight' and 'Mr. F'. It's really hard to pick a couple of episodes out though, because they're all brilliant, but these two are just sublime.

Other than that, the 'Batman' episode of Only Fools and Horses, and 'Speed 3' of Father Ted come to mind.

Not really a comedy series, but Xena has some classic comedy episodes. My favourite at the moment has to be ‘Old Ares had a farm’, very funny and sexy. What more could you want.
