Commando is coming to Blueray!

Now you can see Arnie muscles buldge with clarity as he carries a tree on his shoulder, and marvel at his fathering skills whilst him and his daughter feed a deer in the woods in high definition

If only they had taken the opportunity to include some sort of smellovision in the next-gen Blueray discs. You to could have smelt his enemies coming as they attack his house to kidnap his daughter! The possibilities would have been endless.

This is it, this film will win the format wars singlehandedly. I'm sure the executives realises this, as the parallel with Arnie taking on an entire army and succeeding is just too obvious.

HD-DVD might aswell put on some chain mail armour and grow a tash, as it surely has no chance now...

What difference does that make?

The Searchers was made in 1955 and looks absolutely stunning on HD DVD by all accounts.

Whether the image has been remastered is a different matter.

Arguably older movies fair better.

Surely anything shot on film can be restored to near life like clarity?

Whether the image has been remastered is a different matter.

Precisely what I was thinking - I have my doubts that most 'back catalogue 'Hi-def releases will not be remastered or cleaned up by the studio, especially if they think said release will sell a small amount of copies compared with newer film releases. :)

Some do. Apparently "THe Searchers" and "Adventures of Robin Hood" are stunning.

"Spartacus" is alleged to be a stinker though (shame I'd already ordered it before the reviews appeared).

The Searchers certainly does as I own it.

What I meant more, is that the leap between dvd and hd-dvd can be noticeably greater with older movies given the special treatment,as the above mentioned was, in comparison to the difference between MI3 (for example) dvd and hd-dvd, which while being marked, is not as pronounced :)

Stick to your 4:3 version, so that you can watch it squashed into 16:9 like all the other stuff you watch that way. ;)

when is Commando going to be released on R2 Blu Ray?

It seems the American Blu Rays seem to have the pick of the titles and the European titles seem to be **** first and good stuff later (as usual!!)

This release was withdrawn at a late stage, however some copies made it out (alot like the Robocop Blu-ray) and can be had from ebay.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=582776&mpre=http%3A//cgi.ebay.com/COMMANDO-BLU-RAY-Disc-Rare_W0QQitemZ290139028564QQihZ019QQcategoryZ617QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).
No idea of region coding on it, I would guess its RA locked.

If you have a look around you find any other online retailers selling it (like Amazon, DVDPacific, Axel).

This was due to be released the end of March, but Fox postponed all titles and I dont think its been giving a new date.

DVDPacific have it as coming soon, but no date, DVDWorld have it in stock, but in "Limited" quantities and you have to call so they obviouly have got their hands on a few (last time a title I wanted said "Limited - Call" was United 93 2-Disc and they wanted £50 )

I think Play have that listed in error, but could of course be wrong.

Not Blueray???

Commando and all the other Fox titles were postponed and no new release dates have been announced

My advice would be to wait until this is re-released, as I guess Fox pulled it as they intend to release it in the future in a similar style to the announced S.E.

Transfer *is* an improvement, albeit very minor, with some scenes performing better than others - the remaining could be confused for the DVD transfer very easily.

The audio is (again) a minor improvement, with *that* soundtrack getting the old goose-pimples up when it kicks-in early on :D

No extras, and the US theatrical cut. Wait for the next release and pray for some loving care from Fox

Does anyone know if the *new* US release of this is any different to the one I bought back in 07?

It's not a directors cut is it?

GAmbrose
14-04-2008, 15:42
It is according to this IGN review:

http://uk.dvd.ign.com/articles/865/865491p1.html

Unless they just copied and pasted the text from the Directors cut DVD released in September last year and didn't even think to double check that the Blu-Ray release is the directors cut.

Probably. The reviewer keeps refering to it as a 'DVD'.

i'd say IGN is guilty of Ctrl+V, High Def Digest explicitly says in their review that the Blu Ray is NOT the Director's Cut...
