getting the X360 HD DVD on 24 Nov. anybody seen batman or mission: impossible, was wondering which to get (based on pic/sound quality and extras as apose to film, as i like both)
I've got both - although not watched BB yet though.
BB has a lot of dark scenes so wont benefit from HD as much as MI:3 which is excellent + prob one of the best HD-DVD's I've seen.

Actually thats not true, BB is absolutely fantastic on HD DVD, its a dark film but the extra resolution allows you to see extra detail in the shadows that was missing on the DVD.
MI3 is great too but was shot in both 35mm and HD camera and as a result the sharpness and detail varies from scene to scene.

Check out all the HD-DVD Review sites and Batman Begins is nearly always first or second in terms of being recommended as a reference disk. MI3 doesn't do nearly so well.
I'd go for Batman Begins (and have done as well as the MI set but without an HD-DVD player I can't personally recommend anything).

Not quite sure what your asking, the 360 HD-Drive/DVD player is out soon (24 Nov) . Its comes with a copy of King Kong (HD-DVD) and a 360 media player remote for £130. It is indeed a HD-DVD player, Amazon / Play / HMV etc have all had it up fror pre-orders
sorry mate I should have been clearer - I think I now get it - the xbox360 will now be able to play real HD-DVD movies via an add on :O)
Sorry it;s been one of those days mate....

Batman Begins is best example of HD-DVD I have yet - MI3 is good but BB is just so much better
Its also a much better film which helps

Just wait until Superman Returns HD is out ... it was also shot in HD from the start which helps!
I've seen both now and MI:3 def shows off the format to better effect - BB begins is too dark so whilst it may look good on a technical level (minimal compression, blocking etc in dark areas) theres no real visually impressive scenes. MI:3 has loads of brightly lit outside scenes and thats where HD shines.
Most of the reviews for BB were written before MI:3 came out.
Although to add BB is def the better film by a long shot.

True, but none of the BB reviews have complained of wildly varying quality on the video, soft focus etc the way a couple I've read have on the MI:3 reviews.

Not really part of the topic but I've ordered from DVD Pacific (http://www.dvdpacific.com/AdvancedSearch2.asp?sfl=1&HDonly=1) and I also ordered the Mission Impossible Box Set from HMV (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=18710&a=60823&g=280345&url=http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/navigate.do?ctx=-1;5;-1;-1&pPageID=2041&WT.ac=frontdoor_left_textlink_hd_hddvd).

It's £33.74 from Amazon.co.uk (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000KHX9D8/thedvdforums-21).
I'm toying with the idea of getting the boxset, but as I thought the first 2 were crap I'll probably just seek out a cheap copy of MI3.

*rushes to see if cancelling is an option* :D
Thanks Mr Splobber Sir!!!
Think I shall need to purchase a VGA cable for my 360 aswell which makes using my PC very very annoying, switching cables all the time :x
I'm only going for films I don't already own on DVD for HD-DVD.
Currently have MI:3 and Superman Returns on their way.
Have also ordered World Trade Centre.

I watched Batman last night and to be honest...It didn't look much better than the DVD really. I mean I got sucked in to the film again anyway but other than a few landscape scenes and night time shots of the city it didn't really stand out as being amazing HD.
Maybe thats a testament to how good my old Sony DVD player is and how good the picture quality was on the DVD release of Batman Begins.

Really? i dont actually mind buying some of the older titles such as Goodfellas as they tend to be cheaper than those such as Kong and Superman returns and i figure having spent some money on my HD gear i should take advantage.

Batman and Mi3 have super sound mixes, but Mi3 has the edge in picture quality. It's eye-popping stuff, with Batman looking a little soft to me. Both movies have a good selection of extra features.
