Hey,

Sold something for £100 on ebay about 12 days ago and received payment about 9 days ago. Paid via paypal, and money has been transferred to my account. When I got the paypal email his address was not verified and when I went to parcelforce to arrange delivery for the item, his postcode did not match his address. I sent him an email straight away and asked him to confirm his address for me, and a couple of days after that he emailed me and asked me if I had received payment for the boots. I replied to that saying the same thing and asking him to confirm the address again. This was on Tuesday. He hasn't contacted me since then. Am about to email him again.

Not sure if im allowed to give the buyers ID, but hes been a member since jan 03, 71 feedback, only a buyer not a seller, last thing he bought was some sort of wig on 21st september.

Contact him via eBay rather than email and then next time he logs in maybe he'll notice the "1 new message" in his My eBay page.

Might be dealing with a hacked account - currently taking someone to small claims court who had hacked an account - turned out all the communication was going to the real owner and not the hacker... I thought it odd a couple of days after posting and notifying him through Paypal of the tracking number and that his item had shipped. Be warned - Paypal will wash their hands clean of any responsibility if you ship to an unverified address. Even though you have taken the money out they will just negative your account rendering it useless until you equal the balance. If you ignore it they will chase you for payment.

Have you tried requesting his contact details from ebay ?

They will tell you the phone number he specified when he registered

How do I go about this?

Edit, found out how, have called him but i get number not recognised

report him to ebay for having an invalid number - they will NARU his account
(NARU = not a registered user)

He then won't be able to leave negative feedback so you can then just wait to post until you are satisfied he's not a scammer

Just received an email back from the one I sent him via ebay yesterday saying that its his daughter, he's away until next weekend and to send the item to her and she'll pass them on. The address she's given me is in the same city, Should I just send the item or wait until he gets back?

Only send to an address verified with PayPal.

It also depends what it is, if its something like a latop or mobile, etc., it's wise to be extra cautious as these are scammers favourite items.

Its just a pair of boots..

Looks ok to me i would send them. Its either that or refund him via paypal and relist the item.If you stick to your guns and wait for him to come home he might complain to ebay about non delivery etc.Does look like he lets his daughter bid on stuff that he pays for (the wig). This is probably why the address is not confirmed as items that are bought are going to the daughters addy.

£100 item I would not send unless to a verified address - small amounts maybe but not £100.

Scam!

yep, do not send to other than the verified address. If you do (which ebay and paypal say you should NOT do) then you will be out of pocket if it turns sour.

I'd reverse the transaction and relist - looks well dodgy to me..

Really don't want to relist. Can't be bothered with the hassle and listing fee's were £6. The guy's sent me the money and it's in my bank account, I still have the boots. I emailed him back saying to his daughter ebay advise not to send to an address which isn't verified as the sellers, so please could her father email me when he gets back.

How long do I have the post the item after payment? If the guy comes back and files a complaint to paypal wont the emails from and to him be enough proof that I tried to sort the situation out. Could paypal get the money back as there is nothing in my paypal balance?

They could leave you in the red as it were. Await a reply from the buyer and await for his account to be verified or issue a paypal refund and request an alternative payment, such as a BT.

I am pretty sure that as soon as a dispute is raised (if he did, although I cant see you have done anything to warrant) Paypal will automatocally deduct the funds from your account, even if this means your balance showing as -£100 and you would not be able to use Paypal until that account is cleared.

In November this guy sent me a paypal payment AGAIN of £105.00, I managed to get through to him and spoke to him, he said something about paying with a friends account. Anyway I refunded one of the payments to him, and sent him the boots ... he left me feedback and I left him feedback and that was the end of that.

Today I just received an email from paypal saying the buyer has initiated a chargeback through their CC company. They want me to respond within 10 calender days with either trackable method of delivery, proof that refund has been sent already or accept liability. I can't get his phone number again as ebay wont let me get his details as its been over 60 days...What should I do?

Unless you can prove you refunded or have trackable proof of delivery then you are stuffed.

Sorry to say this but you were warned a few times about the risk you were taking in proceeding with what always seemd like a dodgy transaction.

Know I was warned...Didn't make anything of it as money was in my account etc.

I just called him again and he said he used his friends paypal account to pay, around the same month he also bought a pair of timberlands and paid the same way, and the boots never arrived or something. Guy sounds genuine, said he'd ask his friend and get back to me tommorow.

If he's left you feedback, doesn't that indicate that he's received the item and was satisfied? I've never left feedback for a seller in advance of receiving the goods.

Sounds very cock-eyed to me.

I had a guy do something similar to me when selling a mobile. Saying that it was broke on arrival. Except it took him 1 month to contact me after recieving the goods. When completing the report to ebay make sure you put all the details in every little thing.

Also mention in there that you have sent the mails through ebay,(as these are saved by ebay) and have all copies of all mails recieved that you can send over to them if needed.

Also copy and past the feedback comment from him and ask them to look into this.

You will find that you should win also say to them that if you do win you like this person reported to the police for fraudulently trying to deceive money from Paypal and yourself.

Spoke to his friend today, and she says something about paypal taking the money out of her barclays account 3 times so she went into an overdraft, and its paypals fault and they're the ones who should refund the money. Quite confused by it all, and asked her to send it me in email so I can make sense of it and if need be, forward to paypal.

Don't think shes trying to scam me as such...What can I do about this now?? I don't want to be out of pocket obviously but I don't think paypal can do anything as this is a CC chargeback. Am I right assuming this is up to the banks now?

Just to update on this :

I called the buyer today and he got 1 of his friends to pay first (call him bob), thats the payment I transferred to my bank account, but by the time I got the correct address, the buyer assumed there was something wrong with the first payment and had paid again (call him Steve). Once he received the boots, he thought I had refunded bobs payment but I refunded Steve's. Steve didn't tell the buyer this, so Bob did a charge back and got a refund from his bank about a month ago.

All very complicated, but I've accepted liability for the charge back from paypal, and the buyer is now sending me a bank transfer. Phew!

Haven't got the BT yet. I do believe it was a genuine mistake, and I will recieve it. Guessing it will be monday, as he sent it off this morning

BTW, I havent actually accepted liability from paypal yet, but plan to do so when I receive money

What a carryone

Still sounds Iffy to me.

Can anyone explain it better i.e who has the boots - and why anyone would pay twice and I thought the daughter bought them with her dads account while he was away

received the money in my bank account today. Had a feeling the buyer wasn't trying to scam me as having talked to him, he sounded like a top bloke and not at all like a scammer. it was a genuine mistake, lots of confusion and lack of communication between the buyer and his friends. Very hard to explain (can't quite get my head round it myself TBH) but all sorted out now.

Quick question about this though, had the buyer not sent the money, there's not much I could have done is there? The buyer told me that he contacted his CC Company a MONTH ago and they refunded him a MONTH ago

Which basically means a buyer could buy something from ebay for however much he likes, pay by paypal, and a month or two later, do a CC chargeback, and the seller would just be ******? Will paypal just leave your account in neg balance and stop you using the service? What if you refused to pay?
