I was searching for a list of available titles/coming, and found nothing satisfactory. However I did come across an article about porn being on hd-dvd only. I realise it won't have a big say on what wins, but if things are extremely tight, it could land the telling blow!

I’m the HD project manager for the largest US adult catalog and think “adult” could influence the format battle.

There will be several bigger budget HD DVD XXX titles out before the end of the year, probably as early as next month, from at least 2 studios and probably more.

The major adult companies have been shooting in HD for a couple years. The problem right now is mastering costs are too expensive when average adult titles sell only 2-5,000 units. This year, HD will be for those companies trying to establish a foothold in the market. Starting in Q2 2007, when the replicator for most adult companies gets its own mastering equipment, there could be a lot of titles available.

We were initially going Blu-Ray because of Sony’s Hollywood and CE commitments, but the cost differences in hardware and most importantly, disk replication, combined with good HD DVD and bad Blu-Ray buzz changed our decision to releasing only on HD DVD. Right now, it looks like most of the adult industry will go the same way.

There is a significant market for adult. If adult buyers purchase HD DVD players because that’s where the initial content is, it could end up being a closed loop of disks/players/more disks. With small production runs, it’s not profitable to release in two formats and Blu-Ray could lose the adult buyers forever. Like what we do or not, adult sells a lot of DVDs and has committed customers.

Adult was a player in the VHS/Beta battle. No question adult led in every commerce application on the web. It is not out of the realm of possibility we will have an effect in HD.

Would more people only buy Blu-Ray because they want to watch Lawrence of Arabia or would more people only buy HD DVD because they want to watch porn? I'd guess the latter.

Good stuff, steve! I'm only going to get 'must have' titles on hd-dvd, and 3 are there; Goodfellas, Happy Gilmore and The Thing. Where's the best/cheapest place to buy them?

I can't mention the place I use on here unfortunately.

Personally my favourite HD DVDs to date in no particular order - Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, Fast and the Furious, Mission Impossible 3, Training Day, Serenity and Pitch Black. Those are the ones I would use to show off HD.

The Thing and Goodfellas are good and the best the movies have looked on a home format but are not the showpiece for HD the others I mention are.

I think I know the place you mean - does it begin with a M?:D
I didn't think I'd be getting HD-DVD, when they were selling Happy Gilmore HD for £6.99 - bugger, it's £12.99 now.

I know what you mean mate, HD is costing me a fortune at the moment. I swore I would just buy the odd title but can't resist some of the stuff that is coming out.

Has anyone in the UK actually bought into BD? ALL talk on DVD Forums and DVD Times is HD-DVD. The cost seems to be putting everyone off.

Which adult studio is this article about? It would say a to whether it ultimately means anything. If it's say Wicked then maybe but would anyone spend HD prices for porn?

You could get/can get HD Discs for £6.99???

Has anyone in the UK actually bought into BD? That's a good point - although there are plenty of BD supporters on these forums, the only people that seem to have put down their cash so far are the HD-DVD supporters. Now why is that?

And unless I'm very much mistaken, Blu-ray has actually been released over here, HD-DVD hasn't. And there still seem to be more people buying HD-DVD! Plus of course there's the X-Box 360 HD-DVD drive due fairly soon, which seems to be pretty popular around these parts

Which film studios are exclusive to hd-dvd, and which to bluray, and how come some titles are on both, eg, MI3?

Only Universal are exclusive to hd-dvd.Paramount/Warner Bro
are supporting both.MI3 is Paramount release.

Disney/Fox/Sony Pictures exclusive to bluray.
Things could change in 07 when HD-DVD becomes
No.1 for HD discs.

THat's what I don't understand, HD-DVD yet another new format but stores are retailing at £25 a pop?!?! You look to your left and the same movie is there for £6, what are you gonna choose.

I'm glad that the thing is region free for now... just worried how long its going to take before something comes in to stop us all from importing :(

Neither. I'd look on the web for a reasonably/fairly reasonably priced HD Disc ;)

Yes but sometimes... Impulse buys become an issue.... Some of us have trouble waiting

I demand cheaper discs!!!!

Supermans expensive..... but oh so tempting!! Thing is, once I go HD, will I be able to watch a normal DVD afterwards?
