Got my first three UK HD-DVDs delivered today and the cases we're using instead of the ones used in the States really annoy me.

They're the same colour/transparency as the USA cases but twice as thick. Twice as much shelf-space wasted.

I could just about live with that, but open the case up and then I get REALLY REALLY annoyed.

Every single case has two prongs in it holding absolutely nothing!

We know the companies are ripping us off by charging a ridiculous price for UK HD-DVDs. Do they really have to rub it in by not even giving us a chapter index (but the prongs for holding it instead!)

Thank God for imports!

The newer Universal US ones are my fave... i'm annoyed there are so many different variants already though (I like neatness)

So this morning my copy of Batman Begins arrives (UK release) and it's the same transparency and thickness as the US version. The only difference is the slightly different cover (UK ratings) and there are no feet on the bottom of the case.

So we're less than 10 releases into the format and they're already changing the cases they're using for different releases.

For the love of God, why???!!!!

Maybe they read your earlier post and decided to change them? :)

I don't know why they don't just stick with DVD cases.

I don't know why they don't just stick with DVD cases.

They'll have enough dozy fools returning them (as they don't work in DVD players) as it is!

Same as all the people who returned DVD's because they didn't play in Playstation 1's.

I saw some HD-DVDs in HMV, and Warner releases are as slim as the US ones, but there was a few from another studio I can't quite recall that had thicker cases.

If you look at the HD-DVD's in HMv you will see that not all are transparent. I do not know if the solid colour varies in colour as the shop lighting isn't the best. At least, Blu Ray doesn't have any colour or transparency variations on their cases, from what I have seen. I do not know if they suffer from different sizes too. Shame, as it would have been nice to have a uniform case. Perhaps I should switch to Blu Ray in protest ;)

I've seen some stores selling the US editions of Warner titles, including HMV, so that might be why the cases look thinner?

Didn't even know that was legal tbh :?:

The ones in HMV MK must be UK versions as they are the same thickness as the standard DVD case. My Waterworld import has a much thinner case.

My UK HDs from HMV from Warner as identical to the US cases, as I've got Forbidden Planet imported from the US to compare to. They aren't the US versions either as the artwork includes BBFC logos.

recieved Serenity today in a fat case, it's annoying because the slimline cases are a good space-saving idea.

It looks like only the first few releases (Doom, Serenity, one or two others I've forgotten and I'm at work) were fat, but more recent UK releases are the same as American format. "Superman Returns" is in a US-styled thin case, as is "Harry Potter".
