As long as the total value is under 18 UK pounds then its fine & you wont get hit by customs.

youcould get away with 3 dvds, from my experience. it's even easier to get away with customs via http://www.yesasia.com . deliveries shockingly quick once they post
from my experience though, however Battle Royale isn't the cheapest from them (although some other titles are cheaper from yesasia and deliveries cheaper when you get 5 items).

You absolutely, positively will NOT regret these.

In fact, they should come together as a box-set the amount of times people have ordered them together.:D

Saw Battle Royale on Monday - I thought it was very good, and the DTS soundtrack was very impressive. I'm definitely glad that I went for the R3 with DTS rather than the R2.

I was also impressed with this film although I thought the idea of the film was better than the film itself. (if you see what I mean??)

I wonder if it will be remade by Hollywood? They seem to be taking good foreign film ideas and remaking them at the moment.

I thought Battle Royale was pretty good as well, although it's a shame that the film couldn't mantain the visceral impact & pace of the first 20mins.

I received the Region 3 HK version of Battle Royale yesterday morning. I have watched it twice now - it really is an interesting film.

I'd thoroughly recommend it - and if you don't want it after you've watched it, you can sell it in the classifieds! :D

No - there is original language only. I hate dubbed versions myself.

:( I hate non dubbed movies, subtitles get in the way, and if you have to keep reading them, you can't fully concentrate on whats happening on screen.

Dubbing is an annoyance for me. But as a last resort, I would go for the dub if there was no original language available with subs.

Watched it on plain ole Mono VHS (taped off TV the other week). On the whole I enjoyed it, fantastic premise and very quirky too. But was the director trying to put deeper meanings into the movie? For instance, I thought that perhaps

the girl was starting to get a sixth sense of sorts when she saw the teacher alone in her dream. Plus was she hallucinating him when she was getting soaked in the rain? or was he definetly there?
Then near to the end the kid who won the game last time (the one with the yellow bandana) suddenly made up this cock and bull story about how he was going to kill them to complete the game.......then they get to the HQ and they'r friends again.
Did he figure out what those kids figured out? that being the army could hear them...and thus he said all of that to fool the teacher and get rid of the army.
and yeah, what about him dying, getting up and eating the biscuits? what the hell?
So the kid with the bandana figured it out, but its never elaborated on. Plus its never revealed if the girl has a 6th sense thing going on either.

All in all a good film but the screenplay could have been given another once over to make it tighter. I feel that if Hollywood does make this film then people will slate it because of imperfections in the Japanese original

and one final thing

the bit at the beginning with the girl smiling made no sense. Did she win? of course she didnt cause they sailed off on the boat and then the main two were on the run cause they were wanted with murder.

It just seems that the film threw up these scenes to make it seem deeper but didnt give any reason for their inclusion.

The girl smiling at the beginning was the winner of a previous game, unrelated to the game featuring the main two. She also has a non-important cameo in part 2

- He was there.
The girl has no 6th sense.
She's Kitano's favourite student, hence the picture he paints at the end of the movie.

Then near to the end the kid who won the game last time (the one with the yellow bandana) suddenly made up this cock and bull story about how he was going to kill them to complete the game.......then they get to the HQ and they'r friends again.

- Yes.

- Don't remember that bit at all.

but didnt the giu with the yellow bandanna win the previous game.

- Yep, either it's a plot hole or you have to conclude that Battle Royale is regional rather than national.

My first post ... and on Battle Royale no less. Great little film and concept.

To be honest wit ya, FM .. I'd rather Hollywood leave this one unspoiled. Not really impressed with the state of affairs over there as of late. Being from the states, a third of my collection is foreign and that portion is growing exponentially. The wacky thing is, I just could not see or take seriously that the casting would probably consist of Freddie Prinze Jr, Sara Michelle Gellar or David Arquette. What a group of twits. .. and the story should be taken seriously.

Not to mention that the gore factor, debatable as necessary or not, would not exist. Frankly, I would rather leave it well enough alone as the impression of the pure horror in what's happening is deeper. There should be no remake of this film in my opinion.

Besides, Miramax would probably pick up the rights first and we all know what happens when they get hold of any Asian film ....

Gah. Just saw the sequel tonight. AWFUL.

Only held off buying the original because there seem to be lots of different cuts around - or there used to be. Is there a definitive version yet? Loved what I saw in the cinema...

According to Rewind / Region Compare, the R2 special edition is good. Other regions either lose the English subtitles, framing or bonus features.

Last I heard, it seems american distributors have a problem with Battle Royale anyway.. being that it's about schoolkids killing eachother (bit too close to home).. and as a result Battle Royale still hasn't had an american release. So I doubt a remake will be on the cards anytime soon.

I heard that it was due to Toei, the Japanese distributor believing that American's wouldn't 'appreciate' / understand the subtext of the movie.

Yup that's true, it's not banned in America or it hasn't been turned down by the studios or anything like that, it is that the Japanese distributor's refuse to have their film released in America which is something to be admired I think, when you think of all the money they're turning their backs on.

I've seen it a few times and have the relatively rare Battle Royale tin DVD. It's a very good read, and quite scary considering I'm now teaching here in Japan at Senior High School. Not too many of my students have seen it over here though - they have all told me there is too much fighting and killing in it.

Hollywood should really stay away from this though and try to find some original ideas for films.
