View Full Version : Customs duty threshold raised to £127!
Not sure if this is the correct forum but glad to hear that no duty will be payable below 150 euro (£127) from 1 December. Just wish the dollar exchange rate would make it worthwhile!

I thought this ended up as being wrong and it was just customs duty being scrapped while VAT and admin fee still charged.
For DVD you are just saving 3%.

The Pound has recovered!
There is a mistake somewhere. The HMRC website eventually sends you here (https://nds.coi.gov.uk/environment/fullDetail.asp?ReleaseID=384169&NewsAreaID=2&NavigatedFromDepartment=False).
They have £18 as €22 which is 1:1.22 while €150 being £105 is 1:1.43.

For DVD you are just saving 3%.Not even 3% saved really as if the duty is below a certain amount it's waived anyway..
If it was the VAT threshold being raised or even the Royal Mail announcing the admin fee is to be slashed it'd be newsworthy..
As it stands, meh. :|

Yeah duty below £7 was waived anyway. For practical purposes there never has been duty on DVDs for private individuals. So meh indeed.
Pah! They changed the details in the link!

Then you have been lucky. I have been caught six times (5 for DVD and 1 for a component video cable).
The stupid thing is that you never had to pay duty over £18 anyway.
