Anyone else on this board a silverchair fan? I just got Diorama and find it pretty different compared to the others, anyone like it?

Used to like Silverchair a lot , haven't heard the new one, guess i'll have to hunt around for it.. so what direction have they gone in now then, if its "different" ? not as dark as the early albums?

I posted this topic a while ago. Diorama is an absoultely fantastic album and I think it literally marks a change in rock music - though of course, the world outside of Australia will not notice it at all. The album went straight to #1 there, it will not make a dent anywhere else I'm sure.

Tuna In The Brine and Across The Night are my favourites from the album, though I still think Daniel Johns is an abysmal lyricist. "You brighten my life like a polystyrene hat, but it melts in the sun like a life without love". WTF?!?

I still prefer Neon Ballroom out of affectation, but musically this is by far the best work they've ever done, and by the looks/sounds of things, they're going to get even better from here on.

It's not a dark album at all, quite the opposite. Daniel Johns made himself write happier songs to help change his mood. The songs are bright and lush and contain heavy amounts of strings and horns and big orchestras. It sounds a bit like a Kate Bush album! He's also quite obviously placed a lot of his writing time on melodies, and the vocals soar all over the place - melodically, a VERY strong album. All of the aggression from earlier albums is gone, there are only a couple of real big rock songs on the album, and in my opinion they ruin what is otherwise a really beautiful piece of work.
