I was just checking the DVD Faq (http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html) and was looking inparticular at the "What's new with DVD technology?" section.

"Blu-ray is a recordable format only, intended for home video recording. It is not currently intended for mass-distribution of movies. In fact, it's not even planned to be used for PC data recording, although it's inevitable that Blu-ray drives will appear for PCs."

The quote above some what confused me. I thought blu-ray was going to be used for mass-distribution of movies??

I think the pertinent word in the quote is "currently". I'm no expert by any means, but I'm sure they could mass produce pre-recorded movies if they wanted to?

Blu-Ray is intended only as a replacement for rewrittable dvds (thats why it's in a caddy). It was developed because of the problem of all the incomptable DVD rewrittable stadards (4 of them, when another 4 being developed)

Blu-Ray has the backing of all member of the DVD Forum (except Toshiba who have decided to push their format instead)
