I have 22 Dylan LPs.
I'm guessing my highest number would be my Rush albums which make a total of 24, solo albums not included.
Pearl Jam may give them a run for their money but most of them will be bootleg copies of original bootlegs, if you know what I mean.
I'll have to take a look at my collection but I doubt any other band will beat it.
Just counting those that go into double figures:
The Fall - 42 (who's gonna top that?)
Bob Dylan - 25
Beach Boys - 15
Tom Waits - 13
Nick Cave -13
Captain Beefheat - 12
Beatles - 12
The Wedding Present - 11

I have 33 officially released Marillion albums, but that includes most (but not all) of the official live stuff available on their website and all the freebie fan-club christmas CDs etc.
The "in-the-shops" ones you missed are Real To Reel, A Singles Collection, Tales From The Engine Room and Anorak In The UK :)
[EDIT] Oops, forgot Thieving Magpie and Made Again. I know four out of those six are live albums but the original message didn't say anything about excluding them :)

I was going to reply but tipicus has already explained in depth about the CDs you missed. Check out their website for a list of CDs available on Racket Records.
Too many to count but ALL albums by:
KISS (naturally :) )
Judas Priest
Scorpions
Twisted Sister
Whitesnake
Ozzy Osbourne
WASP
and a few other groups but I'm too lazy to go trawling through my CD's :D

As for album totals, I've just bought the complete Live Phish set which comprises 34 discs but it doesn't really count as they release more every 6 months. Other than that I've got plenty of King Crimson mainly due to my excellent King Crimson Collectors Club membership.

I left those out. You could count a live album as a proper album but at the end of the day it's re-publishing something that's already out there. In theory, an artist could probably have a catalogue made up of 50% live/repackaged stuff. You can't compare that to an artist that has only done full albums

Hehe, "No!!!!!" is the title of their new album :D
I'm counting
1)They might be giants (pink) (1986)
2)Lincoln (1988)
3)Misc. T (1989)
4)Flood (1990)
5)Apollo 18 (1992)
6)John Henry (1994)
7)Factory Showroom (1996)
8)Unsupervised[solo] (1996)
9)Then:the earlier years (1997) (compilation, but I'm counting the bonus tracks as an album in themselves)
10)It's fun to steal [solo] (1998)
11)Severe Tire Damage (1998) [live]
12)Long tall weekend (1999)
13)State Songs [solo] (1999)
14)Mink Car (2001)
15) No!!!! (2002)
I forgot to include number 8 and 14 in my count (though I don't own 8). They also have done a number EP's between them as well as scoring 2 series of "Malcom in the Middle" and doing a few songs for various films. If they decided to release the 200 odd songs they have in the vaults the number would shoot up!

Yes but the question was “how many official albums do you own by one artist?”.
Not "which band has made the most albums?"
So people are quite right to include official live recordings.

Count me in as a major PT fan too! Fabulously talented band and simply excellent live.
Best live show I went to last year Porcupine Tree/Marillion at the Bataclan in Paris. Steamingly hot day, place absolutely heaving with sweaty, mental French fans and an absolutely killer performance from both bands. Stunning.
much as i'm tempted to post my entire album collection i wont ;)
got loads of 1 - 6 from various bands, but the largest collection is 14 lovely iron maiden albums (plus a few brucey ones) followed by 10 (i think) metallica albums.

It depends on if you think a live album counts as official. What do you define as un-official

It doesn't matter what I think as this isn't about opinions but facts.
A live album like Marillion's "Thieving Magpie" is official. So are the live recordings available from their website despite them not being available to buy in the shops.

Eh? If there's no definition of "official" then how can you make a comparison? You need to know what you can and can't include.
Obviously bootlegs don't count but what else doesn't? I don't see live albums as proper albums so I wouldn't count that.

The Gift - allegedly made to annoy Hussey is awesome and I suppose it could be counted. I don't have the tribute album - is it any good?
The other albums I have are a mixture of live/radio sessions/B-side compilations (which is superb because you get Emma, Floorshow, Sandstorm etc)

Just to clarify, the original question should have included any album released, endorsed, and promoted by the artist in question,be it studio, live or otherwise:) (My fault for not being specific enough).
In the Marillion example,Anorak in the UK/The Thieving Magpie and all the live recordings from their website would qualify as the band endorsed their release.
As I know that lots of us collect anything available by a certain band/artist,people could have listed eg. Pink Floyd - 419 or The Rolling Stones - 1294 ;the majority obviously being unnofficial live recordings from eBay,fansites or the bloke in the pub that happened to record their whole world tour  (possibly)!
I only included the word 'official' to keep things on a legal level  as we all know that breach of copyright is illegal and very naughty :( ;)
It was only meant as a bit of harmless fun,and as nick dare has already pointed out,I made an error in my initial post

I read about Gift/Hussey too :p
I think it was in the 'Postcards from above the Chemist' - a great insight into the band if you haven't read it.(I bought it years ago direct from The Reptile House)
The tribute album,pictured here
http://members.lycos.co.uk/jonozz/hpbimg/sisters.jpg
,is very good if you're into the old Sisters.
It was released on Cleopatra Records in 1993 (CLEO6647-2).
Email me if you want any other details on it :) jonozz@aol.com
Artists with 5 and above albums in my collection:
Dylan, Bob 16
U2 13
Queen 13
Cure, The 11
REM 11
Springsteen, Bruce 9
Led Zeppelin 9
New Order 8

Smashing Pumpkins 7

Depeche Mode 6
Hendrix, Jimi 6
Morrison, Van 6
Pulp 6
Belle & Sebastian 5
Blur 5
Cope, Julian 5
Crowded House 5
Radiohead 5
But these figures are not necessarily reflective of my current tastes - I've not listened to a Carter album in years and my Springsteen/Queen fanatic days are long gone. These days I'm buying music by a lot of different artists, where I'll only have one or two albums by each (so far anyway).
