View Full Version : Fave Metallica song pre & post load + video?
For me fave pre load song would be prolly Master of Puppets. Total frenetic guitar playing and such an energy to the song. Post Load is a tricky one. I really like 'Until it Sleeps' but i also really like 'Fixxxer' from Re-Load. I'm gonna go with 'Fixxxer' as it's an unobvious choice and a great song to play guitar too.
Fave video has to be 'Memory Remains'. I just love the whole room/cradle spinning thing.
EDIT TYPO: Although posy sounds much funnier than post. :D
too difficult!!!
I must admit that I only really got into Metallica after the release of the Black LP, but have gone back to all their previous efforts too. However, I think Enter Sandman remains one of the greatest metal tracks ever and would be hard to topple from the podium of Metallica tracks.
I think I'll have to re-visit Load and Re-Load to think of a best one from 'em........
EDIT - Video-wise, I'd have to go for Nothing Else Matters cos it brings back fond memories of watching that time after time on MTV!!

I'm with mjb on this one, far too difficult to pick as there are far too many to pick from. Anyway current faves are:
Kill 'Em All - Four horsemen (Or Seek & Destroy when done live :D)
Ride The Lightning - Creeping death
Master Of Puppets - Welcome home (sanitarium)
And Justice For All - One (Of Course!!)
Metallica - Sad but true
Load - Mama said
Re-Load - Fuel
Favourite video - Turn The Page
I'll do the others & reasons after Big Brother ;)

i like nothing else matters! really kool song.
One - probably the best song ever!
Post load - King Nothing.
Saw them live in 96 - the best concert I've been to. It was the tour as on the Cunning Stunts DVD, Here's hoping I'll get to see them again.
Too many to choose from really, but narrowed it down to -
Whiplash,No Remorse ( Kill em All)
For Whom The Bells Toll,Fade To Black (Ride The Lightning)
Battery,Sanitarium (Master Of Puppets)
Blackened,Dyers Eve ( And Justice For All)
The Unforgiven,Wherever I May Roam ( Black Album)
Hero Of The Day ( Load)
Didn't really rate Load,and haven't bought anything after :)
Best Video has to be Turn The Page, although the full version of One is pretty damn fine too.

Jesus wept ... you really are a mentalist. "Enter Sandman" ... one of the greatest metal tracks? Give me a break! You obviously haven't listened widely enough. As for liking "Nothing Else Matters" ... you sure you ain't Graham Norton using a pseudonym?
Another reason why we call you Gay Dave, Dave.

Narrowed it down to this, Motorbreath, No Remorse, Seek And Destroy, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Trapped Under Ice, Creeping Death, Battery, Master Of Puppets, Thing That Should Not Be, Sanitarium, Disposable Heroes, Leper Messiah, Orion, Damage Inc, Blackened, Harvester Of Sorrow, Dyers Eve, Sad But True, Enter Sandman, and nothing after that was particularly memorable.
The best promo video was One.
The best retail video was Cliff 'Em All
Best cover versions would have to be Am I Evil, Blitzkrieg, Tuesdays Gone, Last Caress/Green Hell, and the Mercyful Fate medley.

You should have seen them on the Puppets tour before they got too loose and lazy live, they were incendiary, and worked even better as a five piece, when John Marshall played guitar due to James and his skateboard accident. Of course their was also the awesome presence of one Mr Burton too.

I like every song on "Ride The Lightning", Master Of Puppets" and "...And Justice For All", but if i had to choose a few:
Ride The Lightning:
Fight Fire With Fire - Metallica at its vicious.
Ride The Lightning - Underrated.
Trapped Under Ice - Forgotten gem.
Master Of Puppets:
Battery - Brutal
Master Of Puppets
The Thing That Should Not Be - H.P. Lovecraft would be happy.
Damage Inc. - Brutal II
...And Justice For All:
Blackened
One
Harvester Of Sorrow
But they're all great. Metallica firing on all cylinders.
After "...And Justice For All" it was a case of "Game Over Man"
Best video? Obviously "One"
Just my opinions though.

The God That Failed is one of their best songs and never seems to get mentioned. Collosal riffage and hoarse roaring from Mr Hetfield! Ace...
Disposable Heroes from Master. As for Post Load i lost intrest in them until St Anger, so i suppose the song St Anger is my current fave.
Is St Anger really any good?
I listened to the demo versions from Kazaa and deleted them straight away as I thought they were abysmal :(

Some of the music is good. Trouble is the song-writing / delivery isn't what it used to be.
St Anger's slow chorus is a real bummer as I feel it really needs to be full on throughout. I just don't reckon it works. Just listen to Master of Puppets as a title track and you'll see what it should have been.
Overall, it is better than much of the drivel they've shovelled out in the past decade, but still not on a par with their first four albums. They used to be a "sound unto themselves" ... now they appear somewhat derivative, both of their earlier stuff and of other bands from across the rock / metal genre.

2 comments I totally agree with - I bought MOP in 1987,and backtracked to Ride The Lightning & Kill Em All straight away - those 3 albums were the ballsiest metal in a long time.
Justice was fair, but not brilliant, and everything since has been listenable, but no biscuit IMO
