View Full Version : The Natural
What a top movie!!! Robert Redford at his best, I first saw this when I was a kid and loved it. Just watched it again and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you haven't seen it I suggest you do.
Welcome to the Forums ..... 6 months of <s>lurking</s> working up the courage before making your first post eh ;)
I must admit it's been so long since I saw this that I have forgotten almost everything about it ...... I'll add it to my 'need to rewatch' list :)
Yes, very good film, even gets a hommage in the Quantum Leap Pilot episode.

...And one of those stirring themes that changes your mood. One of author Bernard Malamud's topics is man's desire to build a new life from the wreckage of the old. Who can't relate to that occasionally?
...and I just Picked it up in the HMV sale for £9.99

Reviving this thread with the news that a two-disc 'Directors Cut' of Barry Levinson's The Natural is coming from Sony April 3 in R1, according to the Sony website here (http://www.sonypictures.com/homevideo/catalog/catalogDetail_DVD043396184084.html) - no other detail I'm afraid, but I rejoice at the news.
Hopefully this time the extras will be slightly more interesting.
You know, maybe have something about THE FILM ITSELF rather than a 40 minute documentary on some baseball player I've never heard of! :cuckoo:

The Natural could be about anything - the baseball is only incidental to the mythologising and the theme of the loss of innocence.

Which version is on DVD in Region 2? The UK cinema release was shortened to 122 minutes instead of the original 137 - and it got much better reviews from British critics than it did from American ones, generally speaking.

Really? I've only ever seen the US version (on laserdisc) - I've never bothered with it on DVD.
