Terrific review Mike! I was always very keen to see this one as there's nothing like an old feelgood teen classic, and I'm glad to see it's as good as I hoped.

What a great film this is. A lost classic that will hopefully find a new audience on DVD.

Oh, and top review Mike

Am I right in thinking the R2 is the one to get?

It has a little extra doc (20 mins) that the R1 doesn't so yes!

£5.99 here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click^QS^p=18513^QA^a=60823^QA^g=228655^QA^url=http://www.choicesdirect.com/templates/product.asp^QS^ProductGuid=658874)

I just got the new R2 re-release. Same disc as before (incl the docu) but a really tough new slipcase over an amaray. Quite fancy packaging for this Warners 'iconic films' range. Here's the full range as listed at play.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://playcom.at/thedvdforums^QS^DURL=http%3A//www.play.com/play247.asp%3Fpage%3Dpromo%26r%3Dr2%26id%3D1274%26pa%3Dprp) Not the versions to get for all those titles but Big Wednesday and Blow Up certainly are.

And now it's twice the price too... the old R2 was out as low as £5 before.

Well yeah but so what, it's still cheap at under a tenner and worth every penny! :)

It's just... meh. Rerelease a dvd, slap a silly case on it and bunk the price up...

but... but... you get a fancy slipcase with shiny bits on it!

I know what you mean but seeing as I missed the first release I'm happy get this. It's bound to be down to about £5 in the next sales anyhoo! ;)

I don't know who said it, but the best quote I know about this great picture is this: "Big Wednesday is the Moby Dick of surfing pictures." Apparently, Milius himself was desperate to play the character of Bear, and the woman Bear marries in the picture is (was) Milius's own wife.
