As well as the previously mentioned Paramount releases in December in R1, look out for Jack Cardiff's My Geisha with Shirley MacLaine and Edward G. Robinson.

Guys; sincere apologies to anyone who follows the alledgedly updated first post in this thread. I'm afraid that since the hols, pressure of work has lead me to put off updating it, and it's simply got away from me.
I've one or two other problems right now, which means that my visits here will be less frequent for a while, so whether I'll be able to update it in the near future, well, I really doubt it. Apologies again.

Is this recent release of the On the Buses films just a repackaging of the set that was released a couple of yrs back, or as there been some "cleaning up"
it was a Warner release last time, I believe it's Optimum release now, so who knows.

From Davis DVD:
Great news from Universal Studios that comes straight out of left field. The studio has announced an October promotion that will see a number of its out-of-print and collectible boxed sets hitting store shelves once again - some even with lower price points! Maybe there's still hope in seeing ultra-rare sets like "Jarhead," "Munich" and "United 93" one day as well without shelling out eBay prices. Among the titles due on October 31st are Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Epic Series (Cylon Head, $59.98), Cinderella Man: 2-Disc Collector's Edition ($29.98), Jurassic Park & The Lost World Deluxe Edition ($69.98), The Monster Legacy DVD Gift Set (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man + Mini-Busts, $49.98), Ray: 2-Disc Limited Edition ($29.98), Bob Hope: The Road Show Series ($19.98), Scarface Gift Set ("Scarface" 1932 + Money Clip, $34.98) and Van Helsing: Ultimate Edition ($29.98). |

The Sony UK website is showing November release dates for Sunday, Bloody Sunday, another release for Blue Thunder, a January 2007 date for The End of The Affair and, curiously, (outside our remit, I admit) Monty Python's Flying Circus - Season 1 (how I hate that nomenclature 'season') is coming February as is 1965's Ship of Fools.
BTW, the Fox / MGM deal is finally showing up at etailers, with many previously MGM releases now showing as coming from Fox on both sides of the Atlantic.

Great news, John - 2 fun comedies and the former is one of the funniest-weirdest ever made in that vein.

A dutch DVD site has published a long list of upcoming R2 (dutch) Paramount releases for 2007. Classic titles in the list are:
01-02-2007 To Catch A Thief 05-04-2007 Looking For Mr. Goodbar 06-05-2007 Saturday Night Fever - 30th Anniversary (2 discs) 07-06-2007 High And The Mighty 07-06-2007 Hondo 07-06-2007 Island In The Sky 07-06-2007 McLintock (2 discs) 07-06-2007 The Quiet Man SE 06-09-2007 Invasion Of The Body Snatchers 01-11-2007 Ring Of Fear 01-11-2007 Man In The Vault 01-11-2007 Seven Men From Now 01-11-2007 Plunder In The Sun 01-11-2007 Posse 01-11-2007 Track Of The Cat 16-11-2006 Indiscreet 06-12-2007 Godfather 1 (Newly Restored) 06-12-2007 Godfather 2 (Newly Restored) 06-12-2007 Zulu (2 discs) Small slate of classics (although there may be more in the pipeline) but at least in Europe Paramount continues to release titles from the Republic catalogue. Let's hope their quality is as good as the recent High Noon. |

The words Quiet Man SE literally jumped out at me. Can this be true? If this is really the announcement of a decent restored print then I may have to go and lie down for a while .

Barrie Maxwell's Bits column has reviews ...of some 15 releases (including 29 films total), from Flicker Alley (Phantom), Universal (State of the Union, This Island Earth), Warner Bros. (Warner Bros. Pictures Tough Guys Collection, Kings Row, Ronald Reagan Signature Collection), VCI (So Ends Our Night, Hammer Film Noir Double Feature Collector's Edition), Sony (All the King's Men, Stooges on the Run), Paramount (Rawhide: The Complete First Season, The Wild Wild West: The Complete First Season), A&E (Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman: The Movies), and AC Comics (King of the Texas Rangers, King of the Rocket Men).'
Not much on the announcement front (not much anywhere in fact), but some interesting snippets there nonetheless - see the column here.
