Wink Help me interview John Saxon [updated w/url]

Many of you will no doubt be familiar with John Saxon, an actor who has appeared in a range of movies, from Battle Beyond the Stars to Enter the Dragon by way of A Nightmare of Elm Street and Cannibal Apocalypse.

He has a new book due out in August and I've managed to blag an interview with him and desperately need challenging questions to put to him about his life and career. I've compiled a set of questions, but think they're lacking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If possible, I'd like to avoid things like "what's your favourite cheese?" and concentrate on solid questions, some light-hearted, some serious.

I'll put as many questions as I can to him and the interview will run @ my site and will also be optioned to a couple of magazines I write for.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards,

John

What was working with Argento like on Tenebre? And Cronenberg on Fast Company?

Was working on a Bollywood film (Raiders of the Sacred Stone) a challenging experience? What was Rex Harrison like to work with in that environment, after costarring with him in The Reluctant Debutante.

He's got a co-directing credit on a horror film I've never heard of - might be worth asking him about that (Death House).

From studying under Stella Adler to being a heartthrob to having a wide-ranging, international career, to being a notable genre stalwart; does he have any regrets?

Probably best not to ask him about Bruce Lee because he rattles on for ages. Or his famous combover.

Sorry! It has to be done, my web-site is about Bruce Lee and John Saxon's new book is about Enter the Dragon so it's unavoidable...

... but my interest in his work extends far beyond his association with Bruce Lee, so thanks for the great opening questions.

Regards,

John

Glad I could help - I admit I'm not the world's biggest John Saxon fan and most of my questions would be about people he's worked with in his varied career.

Or getting him to say lines from Enter the Dragon Or to wear the hat from Tenebre...

Weird, I watched the R1 of Battle Beyond the Stars last night. Could you compliment him on his hand acting for me? It's really rather good.

Er, can't think of any proper questions at the mo. Just eyebrow related ones.

- Does he feel he has a significant place in and/or made significant contribution to the horror genre?
(from Black Christmas to Tenebre to Nightmare on Elm Street etc)

- Does he have any unrealised professional ambitions?

- How does he feel about series television?
- Would he consider taking a long running role at this point in his career (like a Star Trek project or similar)?
- What was it like working on Falcon Crest and in particular, Dynasty?
- Does he collect his tv work as it's released on dvd (like appearances in Wonder Woman etc)?

Ask him:

"We all know that Bruce Lee's Kung Fu was all for the cameras, if he got bevvied up and called your lass a tart could you have taken him outside and slapped him around?"

or indeed:

"We all know that the circumstances surrounding Bruce Lee's death were mysterious. Did he get bevvied up and call your lass a tart, and you took him outside and slapped him around until he was dead?"

That's not true, really - during the making of Enter the Dragon Lee was constantly fielding challenges from the extras to test his mettle.

There was an incident where Bob Wall seriously injured Lee with a broken bottle (because they didn't have sugar glass) and various members of the HK cast goaded Lee into thinking that he'd done it on purpose and that he had to exact revenge. Might be worth asking Saxon about that. Apparently, the amtosphere was extremely fraught.

Enter the Dragon was a martial arts fims. What's you experience of Martial Arts and did you have to do any intensive training for the movie?

A better version of the above might be "Did your double have extensive martial arts training?"

Actually, he did/does. Yuen Wah if memory serves.

I'll ask about it, sure. I approached Bob Wall for an interview and we couldn't agree on his need for 'pecuniary remuneration' before he'd answer any questions relating to the PR of the DVD he'd released. Shame.

"His treachery has disgraced us."

We all know Saxon was stunt doubled for the hand spring but did Yuen Wah use a stunt toupe or Saxon's own?

Any more questions, not necessarily relating to Mr. Saxon's hairline?

For someone who has been in a lot of films, in a lot of genres:

1) If someone asks you to list a film you've been in, which one would you pick?

2) When/If you get recognised in the street, which film are you most often associated with?

My personal guess would be Nightmare on Elm Street, although his CSI appearance might alter things.

I'd also like to know about this Genghis Khan movie he apparently recently made, it sounds... interesting.
